Reviews & Questions

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Kayak! This thing is light. At 55 pounds (unloaded with gear) I can carry this kayak on my head and portage a short distance. Compared to other kayaks I looked into it was one of the main selling points for me. I've spent over 40 hours paddling my Strike 120x Angler and so far and I'm very satisfied with the speed and overall versatility of it. If your thinking about doing overnight fishing/camping trips it has plenty of storage for a 30-40 litre dry bag in the back and a 20 litre in the front hatch. Its a great all around kayak. And at this price point you wont feel like you've been taken.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good first fishing kayak Mine seems to leak a fair bit of water (2.5hrs, 5 of the \dry bag\" scoops of water..... maybe 5L or so), and the seat on it is not good for long trips as it folds in half backwards when you need to stretch (no mid-lower back support). The front storage is nice, but awkward to get to the front latch while in the water, and the \"dry\" storage bag is quite difficult to reach while seated if you have a sore back. I will be upgrading soon to a more functional fishing kayak like the enforcer seems to be. Other than those things though, it tracked really well and was surprisingly stable!!!! I never thought I'd be a kayak kind of guy, but.... this thing may have sold me on them!!!! "

Rated 4 out of 5 by from probably your best bang for the buck you will find I have 2 seasons in mine(500plus hours) and have not had a single problem. This thing is TOUGH nuff said. I use it in rivers alot and have no problem paddling upstream in it. It tracks very well even on the lake in the wind or boat wakes. It paddles great, I'm 55 and I can get er up to 4.2 mph and can ease along at 3 mph for as long as I need to. This is my first kayak and I have thought about upgrading but I haven't seen anything even close to the same price range that even compares to this one. It's very manouverable for a 12' even stuffed full of camping and fishing gear.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Starter Kayak I bought this kayak last year and have had a lot of fun fishing out of it. It tracks really well and moves pretty good. It is a great starter kayak. I did upgrade this year to the catch 120 NXT as I wanted to stand in the kayak and also wanted a comfortable seat. Pelican has great products and their kayaks are durable and light.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Striker 120x angler I'm get a little older and getting out of my beloved Old Town Loon 111 is get tough so I decided to try a sit on top for recreation and fishing. I picked the 120x angler because of its PRICE, features and weight ( I have to be able to load and unload it from the back of my truck by myself). By its appearance I thought it e12 would handle like a barge but was very pleasantly surprised. It paddles very easy, tracks quite well and was surprisingly maneuvable. I may try drift fishing a trout stream with it. My complaints about it are minor. I wish the forward rod holder was 18 inches further back and the side cleat 12 inches further forward. The seat bottom is on the hard side but fixable. It's stability is similar to my Old Town sit in. Not great but more then adequate ( no way would I consider standing on top of it). All in all I think it's a great boat especially considering its cost. This is my fourth kayak ( including an 17 ft. Cedar strip kayak) and it's going to be my go to boat.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good starter kayak This is my first kayak, so I look at it as a learning experience. Things I really like. 1. It's pretty light for a 12 footer. I can carry and load with ease. 2. The price point is very good for the features. 3. The locking hatches, and their size. 4. I'm no expert, but it seems to track pretty well, and paddle fairly easily. The things I don't like. 1. The seat seems too high. I'm 6'3\ and 305 lbs. I feel very \"tippy\" when paddling. I have only had it out twice, since purchasing it 10 days ago, for a total of about 5 hours use. I have not capsized, but spend most of my paddling time concentrating on balance. Maybe with more practice, this won't be as much of an issue. Thinking about removing the seat and just using a cushion to see if it lowers me enough to improve balance. Or, possibly adding some ballast under the seat in the storage area. Even my wife, who is only 5 feet tall, says it feels more \"tippy\" than her 10 foot Future Beach. When stopped and casting, I throw both my legs over the side, letting them dangle in the water. This seems to improve balance drastically. 2. The seat back leans back too far. I'm looking at adding straps, or spacers, to pull it forward. ( if I keep this seat at all) 3. As others have mentioned, no cup holder. 4. As others have also mentioned, the rod holder is too far forward. Overall, I'm fairly happy. I got this kayak at a decent price. ( 20% off at my local Dunhams) So, I have room to spend a little time and money trying to make improvements. Most of all, it got me out on the water. The wife and I are already making some great memories together. "
