Reviews & Questions

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Leaky hatches are a big worry. I purchased this boat to match my Delta 14 ft for short overnight trips on Georgian Bay, and day trips on Sarasota Bay. It competes nicely on speed, stability, capacity, rudder, seat comfort, and deck features. The hatch covers, however, allow large amounts of water inside the cargo space. I resorted to duct tape over top of the small rear day-hatch as it was the worst offender. So far I have not experienced a cap size, but now I am extremely worried about what might happen in terms of buoyancy should this occur. I wish I could adapt the hatches with neoprene covers or something else waterproof.

I just purchased a Sprint 140 at REI and have a question or two.. 1. The Kayak is missing the elastic band to hold the water bottle. Was this an extra? 2. Can you direct me to an understandable description of how to adjust the foot rests when paddling?

Asked by: Christopher

I find one or two litres of water in my rear compartment after every heavy rainfall while paddling my 14 DT kayak. Has anyone come up with away to better seal the hatch?

Paddling in rock filled lakes and streams leads to many hull scratches. Is there a wax or treatment that may help fill the abrasions to improve efficiency? I made a cheap simple light yoke which worked great on long portages if someone wants a photo.

Pelican does not offer any repair kits. We recommend you visit or call their toll free number 1-800-633-3047 for available repair kits for our polyethylene type of plastic. (High Density)

Is there any stock available in Canada

Asked by: Jazz1509
Unfortunately, we have no visibility on in-store inventories. Our products are generally purchased by head offices and sent from their distribution centers through to their stores. We recommend that you use the retailer locator and call them directly for in-store availability details. We only sell our boats through retailers; there is no possibility to buy directly from Pelican. With the end of the summer season, many dealers will be ordering their new inventory in March 2021. We suggest that you check with them at that time.

I like the features of the Sprint 140DT kayak but can't find it anywhere in stores to check if I can fit comfortably. I'm 6'3", 185-190 lbs. Will this kayak work for my size?

Asked by: Dan
I’m 6ft with a 32 inch inseam. At maximum setting I Needed more leg extension so I fixed it real easy. Back at the rudder where the cable attaches to the rudder I just added a small drilled metal strap to make it longer. I used stainless steel nut and bolts so it would not rust. There is plenty of room in side the bulkhead for this to happen. No one ever noticed it and I love that I have a custom boat. Good luck.

I bought a used Elie Strait 140He. Where is the drain plug located?

Asked by: Maurice
Some models of bulkhead did not have any drain plugs. If you cannot locate one ( or the hole) on the back, then your kayak did not have one.

What is the volume of the Sprint 140DT? How much gear can be loaded in the front and rear hatch?

Asked by: ND
The overall weight capacity of the Kayak is 300 Lb/ 136 kg . That should provide you and idea of how much gear you can bring along with you. Make sure the gear is well balanced in the kayak to get the best tracking when paddling!

how do you adjust the circular foot pegs in many Pelican models? it comes forward, but do I need to pinch or do something behind the foot peg to release it? It's awkward and difficult because it's inside the hull.

Asked by: Ibrooks
You will need to angle them a little more forward and push them in the postion you want.
