Reviews & Questions

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly Recommended The Sentinel 100x Angler Kayak is a new and most improved series of products from Pelican. You wont be disappointed since they added a lot of worthy features for easy accessibility, more storage and accessories. The materials for the kayak makes it faster and easy to maneuver since its lightweight and manageable to transport. Its Exopac tray is brilliant, its removable and every space has its own purpose. For me the adjustable foot rest counts a lot, mostly for my kids to stretch out their legs with comfort and stability. The adjustable backrest with seat cushion since fishing takes a lot of time and effort. (This review was collected as part of a promotion.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little yak! I really like this fishing kayak. It has great features like a paddle holder on each side that keeps your paddle out of the way while fishing. It also has a secure spot for a cell phone if you are using one linked to a sonar or for GPS navigation. It's self bailing, has a removable gear organizer and holders for 4 rods. There is also room to add items like ram mounts, rod holders for trolling, ect. It's small, light and easy to put on a car roof, also very stable and handles well. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Multi-Functional Kayak! This kayak is great if you are looking for a leisurely paddle or for catching bass. I live in the city and use it in the city. It can handle moderate waters and glides over seaweed/lily pads with easy to help you get into those areas where fish like to hide. Everything is at your fingertips; two rod holes for your rod/net, two cup holders for your coffee on a morning paddle. It just makes sense to buy a kayak that can do both (fishing and leisure) so that the whole family can use it. Highly Recommend it! (This review was collected as part of a promotion.)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Amazing Kayak I’ve never been on a kayak before, this was my first experience and I was hesitant to try but happy I did. I’m on the heavier side of the weight limit so was afraid I would tip over. It took a minute to find my core balance but I was fine.  The compartments are awesome, I don’t fish but I’m a girl so it’s great to store things.  My only complaint is it was difficult for me to carry...I have long nails and there aren’t really any handles per say. All in all it was fun to be on the water with only the kayak and paddle.  Highly recommend. (This review was collected as part of a promotion.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It’s sturdy First time kayaker! Little time to get used to it. Paddling like a pro after a few minutes. Just bought the 120 Strike for hubby. Testimonial enough!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for beginner Kayak angler This is a good beginner angling kayak for decent weather paddling. It's a sit on top style kayak with rod holders and simple tackle storage options. PRO: - Relatively light (around 40lbs) - Angling storage options built in - Sit on top style is self draining - Paddle holders on BOTH sides of kayak CONS: - Cannot stand up in kayak - EXO crate is a good idea but feels loose - Can use some side handles for transport (This review was collected as part of a promotion.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little kayak! To be transparent, this kayak was provided as part of the Canadian Tire Tested by Canadians program but in no way has that influenced my opinion and thus the review of this product. This kayak is really great. I had the kayak paired with a 89inch outbound kayak paddle. Pros and cons below: Pros: - at about 45lbs, it's fairly light and although safer to lift it with two people, it's possible to carry and lift on my own - it has handles built into the hull of the boat which makes it easier to carry around - 4 (FOUR!!) fishing rod holders. Two in the front, two in the back. You can use the holder in the front for your active fishing and the two in the back for trolling around. They are also easy to access - the backrest is pretty comfortable. I've fished and paddled in the boat for 2-3 hours comfortably. - molded footrests are adjustable for people of varying heights - very stable and manoeuvrable. I'd have to rock pretty hard to flip the kayak - two cup holders up front for easy access to drinks throughout the fishing trip. Under the cup holders, there's also a little storage compartment which you can use to put keys, ID, others but take note that the storage compartment isn't sealed so water can get in. - there's an elastic strap in front of the cup holder so you can place your phone. Very nice feature! - nice camo colour! :) - self bailing - lots of storage: at the back you have a crate which you can put your tackle box and other miscellaneous things and at the front, you have a rubber net which you can secure things under. Cons: - this is just me searching for a negative thing to say about this kayak.... so far everything has been great. The only thing that I could comment on is that the elastic straps at the back are hard to tie together to hold the crate in place. It took me a while and a lot of constant tugging but I was able to eventually put a knot in the rope. Nothing to be used to knock off a star from the review for this boat though. I am 6ft3 and 220lbs and usually carry about 3 tackle boxes wich are about 12inX9inX2in and 1 extra rod and reel. I was wondering if this kayak will support that weight and have enough storage for my gear. Thank you.

Asked by: Jyco75
The max capacity are (275 lb - 125 kg), it would be best if you had a fishing kayak at least 12 ft in length. The catch 120 are (400 lb - 181 kg) max capacity, I believe it would be better to suit your needs.

I love to take my dog with me when I go fishing. Would this kayak be able to accommodate a person (5 ft 6in) and a large dog (80lbs)?

Asked by: Nik
Look for a bigger kayak friend. Maybe a chihuahua, but there is NO room for an 80lbs dog in this yak. Maybe the catch 120 would have room. I'd say if you want to go out with a large dog go for a hybrid kayak like the H12 Ascend. Definitely look around at some 12 footers.

Hello, I have this kayak and I am about to move to Florida. How would it handle in the swells? Do you believe it would be stable enough to handle the ocean?

I just purchased the Sentinel 100X Angler Kayak, just wondering what length paddle to purchase(I am 5'9") and what size scupper plugs to purchase for this model ? Very excited to get this in the water

Asked by: footah
I suggest you taking a paddle lenght of 98.5" (250 cm) and over. The Poseidon Angler would be a great choice for you: https://www.pelicansport.com/ca_en/ps1129-00. The scupper plugs size is 1.25" (2.54 cm): https://www.pelicansport.com/ca_en/ps1409-1-00

Can you easily get back in kayak if you went swimming or fell out?

Asked by: DC
It is a sit on top so generally easier than a sit in kayak. It also all depends on your abilities. Some find it easier as some find it difficult. It is a pretty stable model so I would lean more towards easier than harder.

Can you stand up and fish in this kayak I am wondering about the stabiltity.

Asked by: Austin12345
This kayak is made with our Multichine Flat Bottom Hull, which is one of most stable ones for our kayaks. It is stable enough to stand, as long as you respect the weight capacity of the kayak and your own physical capacity AND always wear a individual flotation vest. :)
