Reviews & Questions

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible Deal Ok. This is a brand new tandem, with seats, that floats and retails at less than $400. The 5 star review could end here. But it doesn't because it's actually really nice. My family has taken this kayak out 9 times over the last month. It is very sturdy and easy to control (even for 1). I have pulled the drain plug everytime to check - so far it hasn't taken in any water. I have had all combinations of 1, 2 and 3 people on this kayak with no issues. It is a great kayak. No frills whatsoever - just a great affordable kayak.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Affordable & Reliable We just bought the kayak yesterday and took it out today. Was a little skeptical after reading reviews after we bought it but now we don’t regret it. Other reviews referenced drain hole concerns and we got concerned when we first saw the water too but as it turned out the water was minimal and as soon as we got out of the kayak the water was gone. I then took it out alone and found it handled just as good as it did with 2 passengers. The duel hull kept it very stable even when I intentionally rocked it to test it. The fishing pole and cup holders were an added benefit as we bought it for fishing and exercise purposes. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and look forward to our next activity in it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Challenger is a little challenged I love the design and the price point for this tandem kayak. It seems to track well and remains very stable. Although I was skeptical about the thickness of "padding", the seats were pretty comfortable for several hours of paddling. One major complaint, the front seat support ridge buckles into a tight kink in the plastic with less than 180lbs in the seat. Obviously, there is not enough support built under the seat to support the weight of a large teen, much less an adult. The kink comes out with time in the sunshine, but you can see the plastic is already starting to fatigue. It seems like I could fix the issue with a small drill bit and a can or two of expanding foam, but if this was built correctly, I wouldn't have to do it. (I now see another reviewer also complains of the same issue). One minor complaint, the rear seat leg rest area takes on water with only 400 lbs total weight in the kayak. With foam plugs in the holes this was no longer an issue, but you have to buy the plugs separately.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun family kayak! My wife and I have taken our 5 year old son out a number of times now and have had a great time. The kayak is very stable. Whether running into the wake of larger boats or a bored 5 year old wiggling like crazy, we've had no issues with tipping. The back of the kayak has enough room for a milk crate (salvaged in one of our trips) and the bungees hold it place. Perfect for carrying a dry box, lunch/snacks and water. The back rests are small, but surprisingly provide decent support. There are enough places to attach leashes for paddles and accessories. Whether sitting in the middle on a solo trip or spread out with the family, the kayak tracks really well. I have no fished on it yet. My only complaint is the back of the front seat collapsed on our last trip out and I can see some slight buckling on one side. We are under the weight limit (including gear). Also I pulled the plug when we came back in and water drained out. We've not wrecked the kayak or hit anything. That said... for the price I'm still happy with the purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sturdy fun ride! We bought this kayak yesterday during the Fourth of July sale. We’ve taken it out twice already with our 17 month old in the middle seat. There are two small loops behind the seat in the middle so we were able to create a retention system with rope and caribeners to keep her in safely. We are extremely please with this purchase.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great value, No regrets I know this is not a high end tandem kayak but it sure has a lot of bang for your buck. The seats are surprisingly comfortable and easily adjust for your back from full upright or laid back cruising. It's roomy enough for two adults and a medium dog, a pair of PFDs, a medium dry bag and a couple of beach towels. Lesson learned... If you stuff anything under the bungees in the back make sure it can get wet. When beaching my gf got out and pulled us up onto shore while I stayed in the yak. The scuppers in the back work both ways. Water comes in just as easy as it goes out. Wet towels, now I know. I think there might be 6 scuppers throughout and they do help keep the interior dry if some wake wash comes aboard. These are basically just through holes that allow water to run out. I got a pair of 87 inch paddles and they work just fine. I do recommend getting a pair of paddle holder clips to rivet along the top edge to keep your paddles handy when you're not using them. I also got a kayak dolly so I could wheel it to and from the shore by myself easily. Lastly, unless you have space to keep it inside, I'd get a waterproof cover with an elastic bungee bottom. The one I got fits nicely, even over the paddles secured in the clips. Overall this kayak is a great value, very stable, moves along nicely and is fairly comfortable.

Are there supposed to be 6 holes in my Challenger 130t?

Asked by: JarodD
Yes these are scupper holes so the water can evacuate the kayak.

Hello, I’m owner of a Pelican Challenger 130T and I’m very much enjoying this product. Although I do have a concern about fixing one issue I have with it. Water has accumulated literally inside the watercraft making it unnecessarily heavier so help plz.

Asked by: Troy
You would need to find the area from where the water is entering your kayak. Make sure your drain plug is still working properly and that you are draining your kayak after each use. Once you have found from where the water is coming in from, see if you can contact POLYVANCE for a repair kit depending on the severity of the issue. or call their toll free number 1-800-633-3047 for available repair kits for our polyethylene type of plastic. (High Density) If you need more information and wish to provide pictures of the issue, please contact our customer service department at 1-888-669-6960 or by email with picture at
