Reviews & Questions

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome point despite my concerns about my weight. So I bought this model despite my weight being 270. No problems at all. I had two poles, a net, sunscreen, a sponge, a 1.5 pound anchor, a tackle box filled with stuff, a paddle, a whistle, a life vest, a second small bag filled with catfish shad and dough bait, a water resistant box for my phone and wallet, and a hat to top it off. I was on the kayak from 8:15 AM until just before 3PM. It was amazing. It wasn't to much work, I tipped it and tested re-entry, and at one point needed to cool off and had to sponge water into the boat because hardly any came up through the holes. I am going back out tomorrow. I love this Kayak.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exploring and fishing I am new to kayaking, whereas, my girlfriend has done it all her life. She says they are a great kayak for an outstanding price. I noted that it tracks well in calm water and does relatively well in those wonderful Oklahoma daily 20 to 30 mph winds. I've used it to explore shallow areas along rivers and lakes and also found fishing from it was easy as it had a wide mid section. An exceptional price for a good all around kayak.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great fishing kayak Bought 3 weeks ago and four trips out in Corpus Christi bay, Laguna Madre and Oso bay has been great. Only 10 ft. long but plenty of room for my gear. Like it for it's light weight 45 lbs. At 67 years old I can load it on vehicle and carry it to water by myself. Only downside s that it doesn't track as well as a longer kayak. Can't beat it for the price! All I added was a milk crate for storage and a diy anchor trolly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great first kayak! My wife bought this (fade black & tan) kayak for Father's Day in 2018, and while I'd never been kayaking, I've had a great time with it. We have a place on a major lake in Alabama, and it is a great platform for fishing in the sloughs. I'm 72, 6' 2" and just over 200 lbs and with an aftermarket seat that replaced the stock one, I'm comfortable and have become quite confident in it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from First kayak I bought this kayak about a month ago to expand my fishing options. So far it's been great, sometimes while on the move I lose my track but nothing too bad. I feel pretty stable on it and comfortable going into light and moderate currents. It is very light, makes it very easy for me to load and unload, and I can carry it just about anywhere with ease. I would say the only thing that gets to me is the the seat, I can't seem to find a comfortable way to sit. I'm a bigger guy so I take up more than a little room but all in all I find a way to stay out for hours on it fishing. I got this kayak at Academy and I'll say it's worth what I paid, I feel like it is a perfect starter kayak for me and I'm hoping to keep with Pelican when I upgrade to a bigger kayak.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Stable... Bought 2 of these kayaks and have traveled around US with them strapped to the top of my Jeep in tow behind Motorcoach and these kayaks have held up great in all kinds of environments. Highly recommended and great for kids!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have an older version of this yak This was my first yak I ever bought. I still use it to fish small lakes but have had it out in Kentucky lake. I have an older version of it and it’s at least 5 years old. Don’t be afraid of durability of the plastic because it’s held up as good or better than my other big name yaks. Things I love Small and light weight Strong plastic has not warped or punctured Simple and inexpensive Cons Will not track great because it’s small Seat will need an upgrade unless you’re a kid and have a good back and neck Don’t load it up with lots of gear because it sits pretty low in water. This is a great kayak that I still own and use. Just know what your getting before you purchase. Pelican makes great products so don’t be fooled by the price compared to more expensive yaks. This will get you out in the water and safely get you back.

Can you stand in this kayak?

Asked by: Lb
This is not what it was intended for, but the Twin-Arched Multi Chine Hull is very stable. Always wear a pesonal flotation device and stay in calm waters. :)

How thick is the plastic?

Asked by: jackie27
It is hard to determine how thick the plastic is because it can be thinner/thicker in some areas. There are three layers of plastic and the RAM-X is a very sturdy & tough plastic to break. In case you are worried about damages. It is not recommended to leave it out in the heat for a long period of time.

Is there anywhere I can put  a hatch for storage and to help install other things (ex: anchor trolly)?

Asked by: jackie27
We do not recommend to drill any holes in your kayak as this can void the warranty in that area.

Can you use just straight screws in the plastic or do you have to bolt it when trying to add tie-downs?

Asked by: jackie27
The paddle tie downs we have as parts actually have metal endings that " flip" once inserted. Like a "T " ending on the inside of the boat to prevent form popping out. We also want to insist that any modifications and holes made to your kayak will not be covered under warranty. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out our customer service! :)

Is it stable enough for small waves and if it gets water In the top will it sink ?

Asked by: Jorge
Our kayaks are made for calm waters. Small waves should not affect the stability or tracking of the kayak as this model tracks fairly well and it pretty stable. Being a sit on top, the scupper holes are self-bailing and would allow for water evacuation if necessary.

Hello All, bought my first fishing kayak today and took her out. My question, does anyone have a suggestion as to how they store bait and such? With the compartment being behind the seat if felt awkward to turn. Also where do you store paddles when fishin
