Reviews & Questions

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Right choice. I have been researching these boats for awhile now and decided on this model and brand sold here at The Sports Academy. I compared this to the Sundolphin Sportsman and feel that this boat offers the most bang for the buck. In my opinion, the extra length and weight capacity is worth the price difference between the two. Trying to fish with two grown adults requires a boat that will handle one's gear and accessories for a safe day on the water. This boat does just that! This boat is extremely stable and tough for the value. No need to keep hunting for that perfect budget rig-here it is!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Greatest EVER! I just bought mine this summer, I didn't want to write a review until I had time to take it around the block a few times. This thing is awesome, I use a trolling motor on it and have had a great time on the Bayou near us and the upper river area in the National forest. I weigh about 250 and my son 125, add in the anchor, cooler, trolling motor, 2 batteries, fishing gear, and the our spoiled dog, it done great! It handled perfect, very comfortable, stable and we caught fish. Super easy to load and unload from my utility trailer, three 1 inch straps and that was it. I wish I had bought one sooner! This is going to be awesome for crappie fishing, no more crowded banks and bridges for us!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little boat I bought this do I could go fishing in some lake sand rivers. It is very stable and holds a lot more weight than it indicates. The boat indicates it holds 600lbs max, but my buddy and I have gone (a little over 600lbs between both of us), plus the batteok, trolling motor, and fishing gear. We like to fish for alligator gar and the boat puts up with they can give. A down side is that water tends to gather on the boat when the current may be too strong. I usually use a small bucket to take it out, not that big of a problem. I use a 30lbs trolling motor, but with all the weight a 45lbs would be better (the 30lbs does okay though). I also use an 8lbs lake anchor, which does a great job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Pond Hopper Quality is very good, if your looking for a pond hopper where you cannot bring your bass boat and something you can toss in the back of your pickup here it is . Stable enough to not have to worry about capsizing and can be moved with a modest trolling motor. Light weight not to heavy at all for dragging around at launches. Gonna devise some wheels for it as I usually fish alone(or with my dog) not that I cannot drag it but would rather not worry about wearing it out. Great product just what I was looking for .Built a small deck for my dog who loves the water which fits on the rails for the chairs .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great boat for the money! I have had this boat for about a year now and have gone on hundreds of trips in it and it has never failed me. from other boaters speeding by and some pretty heavy storms it is very stable on the water even to stand and bass fish. however i use it for cat fishing and crappie mostly. the only downside this boat has is it only has 2 rod holders. i have taken 2x4's and 2 U shaped bolts and bolted the 2x4's to the back handles as to not take a chance on causing leeks. now it has 3 upright rod holders and 2 drop rod holders in the back along with the 2 factory uprights in the front.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little boat for ponds, small lakes. Bought this and a McClain trailer a few months ago from my local Academy and am very happy with it. It's very lightweight and I have no trouble loading/unloading it from the trailer by myself and am sure it would be just as easy from the bed of a pickup. Boat is very maneuverable and stable on the water and does just fine with the 40lb. Minnkota (also purchased from Academy!) It is pre-wired front and back for a light outboard or trolling motor and this makes these a breeze to hook up. I have my Minnkota on the stern and a Humminbird depth finder up front and this works great. I have also added a Scotty Anchor Lock and one of their rod holders although the two built-in rod holders are functional. All in all I think this boat is a great value and for Academy's low price it is hard to beat.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best small bassboat I've had my Bass Raider for 5 years now. Caught over 450 bass with it. Gets on any lake since you don't need a boat ramp. Can set it up for one or two people. If something happens to my boat I'll go right out and buy another one. Don't think I'll ever have to since this thing is made so well. I made a 11ft kayak paddle, EVA foam/1/2 plywood/EVA foam floor, front transom mounted anchor deployment system, trolling motor ext handle with built in swivel and upgraded the seats. Just throw it in the bed of my 4x4 and I'm ready to go.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Product for the Money I've had my Bass Raider for over a month now and have enjoyed every minute of being on it. It holds two grown adult men easily. It is very stable for the weight.....which is super light. The size is great and easily fits all my gear. I use a Minn Kota Endura 55lb thrust trolling motor with a Exide 31 battery and it goes all day. Perfect for lake or pond fishing. Ive already began to customize the boat and can't wait to do more.

What is a good trolling motor shaft length for the bow mount? I'm deciding between a Minn Kota 30" 30lb or the 36" 40 lb? Thank you!

Asked by: dimsum41
We do not recommend exceeding 30 lb thrust and a 3.5 HP

is the Bass Raider 10E still in production? None of the Academy stores around me have it, and even Amazon shows it unavailable and unknown if it will ever be available

Asked by: Fernando
The Bass Raider is still available, this time of year it can be harder to find inventory as summer is coming to an end. Dealers will start to purchase more products for the new year. I would check with a retailer near you. They would probably have a better idea as to when they would be ordering more boats.

I’m looking at two used Pelican 10’ boats. One of them specifically says “Ram-X” on the side but the other has no badge like this. Is this an indication of age and is the non-badged boat not made with the Ram-X material?

Asked by: Scott
All of our products are made from Ram-X material. If there is no indication of the Ram-X logo this can simply mean that it has been worn off, being a used boat this can be likely. We would be able to provide you with more information if you would call our customer service line at 1-888-669-6960 with the serial numbers of the boat.
