Reviews & Questions

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great kayak for a great price! I am pretty experienced with kayaks. I have several. I was looking for a sit on top kayak that I could pick up by myself easily (I am 4’11” and 140lbs) so that I could go on solo kayaking trips some times. I can easily pick up and handle this kayak. As far as the actual use of the kayak, it tracks better than some other 10’ sit on tops that I have tried. It is a little slow but I have used slower. It is very stable. I believe I have a new favorite kayak. I am thinking about buying another soon. I had no issues with the seat. I will probably add a fusion under the bottom part for long trips but it’s really not that bad. I live how the seat is elevated and that there are no scuppers under it. I did not get wet at all on this trip. Definitely recommend this kayak for fishing or adventuring.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice buy I bought this kayak know I would be in all sorts of water living in San Diego. For a beginner kayak it has great tracking . Compared to two other kayaks I Purchased from other vendors. My pelican endin up getting a crate mod to fish amy my yak know ways about 60lbs still not bad . I've even loaded fire wood on kayak and carried it to fire pit about a mile . It held up . This kayak is Diffently a great buy for the money. Pelican is quality. I plan on saving to get a fishing kayak from them. Tell know I have a bandit. Oh my three kids love it too ages 10-11 and 16

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Need a seat cushion Could be more comfortable on long trips. I purchased my bandit November 2017 and at that time there was no seat cushion at the time. Looks like its been upgraded and will contact pelican soon about the cushion.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Just OK This model is always on sale at Dicks and is clearly aimed at first timers. I wasn’t expecting something for nothing, I went in eyes wide open. I purchased this because it has the same twin arch hull as my Pelican Mustang. The Bandit is an inch wider but the two boats could not perform any differently. The Mustang glides through the water and tracks beautifully. The Bandit on the other hand, feels clumsy and slow. If you do anything more than gently paddle, a bow wave builds up in front of the boat and handling goes out the window. When comparing the two kayaks, there are substantial differences in the hull shape of the two kayaks and the Bandit underperforms. The kayak is also uncomfortable. The molded footrests are either too far or too short and they are angled in such a way that I can’t achieve a natural resting position for my feet. I’m an average guy, 5’8”, so I’m guessing others have a similar problem. The kayak is very stable and easy to fish from with self-installed rigging. Overall, this is a fine play boat, but if you need to cover any meaningful distance it will be work. For the price, it is a decent kayak, but just don’t ask too much of it.

Since there isn't a storage compartment, how would I mount fishing pole holders and a fish finder?

Asked by: kmo
The swivel rod holder would have to be installed by cutting into the deck of the kayak; depending on the fish finder which Pelican doesn't sell, some may be clamped onto the side of the kayak (not having to drill into the product)

I found a small hole in the stern of my kayak on the underside, it's a 10p nail hole I think. How can I patch it? I float for a 2-3 hours at a time, do I need to patch it?

The scupper is basically about 1" to 1.25", but at one point it narrsrows down to a tiny hole smaller than a dime. Is it okay to drill out that narrow point to accommodate a dolly that uses the scupper holes.

Asked by: Dave H.
We do not recommend to drill any holes in your kayak as this can void the warranty in that area.

I live in the Seattle area and cannot find the Pelican Bandit NXT 100 Kayak anywhere within 100 miles - do you have any merchants in this area that carry that kayak?

Asked by: Greg
Unfortunately, we have no visibility on in-store inventories. Our products are generally purchased by head offices and sent from their distribution centers through to their stores. We recommend that you use the retailer locator and call them directly for in-store availability details. We only sell our boats through retailers; there is no possibility to buy directly from Pelican. With the end of the summer season, many dealers will be ordering their new inventory in March 2021. We suggest that you check with them at that time.

I just got a Bandit and I can't pick this thing up. I have no problem carrying my partner's Trailblazer. He also struggles with it because of how the "handles" are placed. How can I carry this thing when a cart won't do?

Asked by: SGFaith
I find the easiest way to carry it is to hold it upside down and balance it on your head, using the seat cushion as padding.
