Reviews & Questions

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to haul, easy to carry. I bought this a few weeks ago to take with us on our camping trips, and so far I have really enjoyed it. It fits inside my 2017 Subaru Forester (passenger seat front and back headrest removed and front seat all the way back), and I can carry it myself (52 year old woman). It is a little more tippy then our 10', but not near as heavy. The good part is it is easier to paddle and goes much faster. The bad part is that it doesn't track all that great. I'm going to try and add a skeg, and see if that helps.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from The 10 foot model is much better We have this and the Pelican Argo 100 and my wife and I both like the 100 much better. The 80 is more wobbly (although it doesn't tip over), and doesn't track as well (keep on going in a straight line) . On the other hand, the 80 is very light and easy to carry, can fit inside our van, and is very reasonably priced. If you have the space and the extra $30, I highly recommend the 100, and the 80 is pretty good if you must fit it in small spaces

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Little Kayak This is a good little kayak. Its not going to win any races, but it is easy for me, a 5'5" woman, to carry up three flights of stairs and haul on top of my Prius. Its an easy way for me to get out on the water and do some casual paddling. Its light but definitely sturdy. It doesn't track super well, and is a bit tippy, but its a good basic kayak and definitely worth the price. Really happy with this kayak!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great little light weight kayak In 2013, I bought a similar version of the Argo- at that time it was called a Vortex. As an older and shorter woman, I wanted a kayak I could easily lift myself. It also helped that it fit into my smaller hatchback. Even though I have a longer and more expensive kayak, I will not let go of this one. It has held up well and is my go to kayak for spur of the moment paddles. My only complaint is the lack of foot braces, otherwise I would give it 5 stars. A friend installed some aftermarket foot braces and now the kayak is perfect!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE MY ARGO! I was looking for a small kayak, good for beginners that was light weight. I wanted to be independent in lifting and getting it to the water, or loading it on my suv. Turns out, this little gem fits INSIDE my Honda CRV ! ( of course, it's tight, and passengers are out of the question, but my friends have the same type of kayaks- so we caravan/convoy to the water.) Best yet, at only 27 lbs, I can do everything myself! This baby won't win any races, but what is the point of racing if you'll miss everything that mother nature has to offer? It tracks very well - and very nice for the 149. price tag. My only beef was the cost of shipping, which if I could have located the 8 ft argo in a local store, I would have.many stores in my area sell the 10 foot pelican. :(

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for bass fishing I bought this last year because of a bad back. I needed something lighter that could fit in the a small SUV. I added 2 rod holders in the back and can actually get 4 rods in it with a tackle bag. I bought a very short paddle since the kayak is not very wide. It works for me and am very happy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My first kayak - Got me addicted to the sport. I bought this as my first kayak. It is light weight (27 lbs) and very durable. I have had it for over 7 years and it is one of the best purchases I have ever made. I am 71 years young and 5 foot 1 inch and can easily transport it myself. Thsi is now my extra kayak to lend to family & friends to spread the love of kayaking.. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy for a woman to handle I am only 5 ft tall. I love that I don’t have to ask anyone to help me carry this. It fits inside my SUV, so I don’t have to lift it over my head and strap it down. It is really sturdy. I go out 3-4 times a week. I am so happy.

I live in British Columbia Canada. In light of Covid understanding the Pelican Argo 80X Kayak will not be obsolete. Are you able to tell me if any of your suppliers will be receiving this product this year? Much appreciated, Karen

Unfortunately, we have no visibility on in-store inventories. Our products are generally purchased by head offices and sent from their distribution centers through to their stores. We recommend that you use the retailer locator and call them directly for in-store availability details. https://www.pelicansport.com/ca_fr/storelocator/index We only sell our boats through retailers; there is no possibility to buy directly from Pelican. With the end of the summer season, many dealers will be ordering their new inventory in March 2021. We suggest that you check with them at that time.

I’m a 5.4 female with 110 lb weight. I’m not experiential kayaking very much. If I want to buy a kayak it should be based on my weight or height or even both?

Asked by: Fara
We recommend a 10ft kayak for a 5ft and over person. There are a lot a factors when buying a kayak, you have to look a the hull types and features to make sure this kayak respond to your needs. A person that is 6ft and over we would recommend a 12ft kayak. If you want to try our kayak finder, maybe it'll help you make the perfect pick: https://www.pelicansport.com/us_en/kayakfinder

Will this kayak fit someone who is 6' tall?

Asked by: lee
We think it would be too small. Leg space is important. We recommend at least a 10 ft, 12 ft would be even better.

This is my first kayak... I unwrapped the plastic off my Argo 80x. I was inspecting to make sure there was no damage. I noticed on the inside of my 80x underneath the seat nearing the back end of the 80x was styrofoam blocks, Are those essential??

Asked by: NART
We recommend that you do not remove the styrofoam that is visible in the kayak as it acts as extra flotation. This extra flotation styrofoam, if removed, can be replaced with any styrofoam found at your local hardware store. The kayak, without this extra flotation, will still float and perform as it was designed for but will sit lower in the water. Unfortunately, we do not sell replacement foam.
