Reviews & Questions

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Easy to haul, easy to carry. I bought this a few weeks ago to take with us on our camping trips, and so far I have really enjoyed it. It fits inside my 2017 Subaru Forester (passenger seat front and back headrest removed and front seat all the way back), and I can carry it myself (52 year old woman). It is a little more tippy then our 10', but not near as heavy. The good part is it is easier to paddle and goes much faster. The bad part is that it doesn't track all that great. I'm going to try and add a skeg, and see if that helps.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from The 10 foot model is much better We have this and the Pelican Argo 100 and my wife and I both like the 100 much better. The 80 is more wobbly (although it doesn't tip over), and doesn't track as well (keep on going in a straight line) . On the other hand, the 80 is very light and easy to carry, can fit inside our van, and is very reasonably priced. If you have the space and the extra $30, I highly recommend the 100, and the 80 is pretty good if you must fit it in small spaces

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great kayak. Cant believe how good for the money! Excellent kayak. For a first kayak its am excellent buy and pricepoint, you wount find a better kayak at this price point hands down. The seat is super comfortable, I spend hours on it and I am a beginner, this is my first kayak that I own even though I've been on various models either rented or borrowed from friends. The stability is top notch, maneuverability is excellent as well, no negatives at all honestly, and I can find things to correct fairly quick on most product I buy, but this kayak is perfect on its price range and even when conpared to more expensive kayaks, I paddle with people that have really expensive kayaks, and not even once I had a need to upgrade mine because of x or y reasons. If considering it, buy it. Dont even think about it. Excellent kayak. Thank you Pelican, for an awsome product!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Little Kayak This is a good little kayak. Its not going to win any races, but it is easy for me, a 5'5" woman, to carry up three flights of stairs and haul on top of my Prius. Its an easy way for me to get out on the water and do some casual paddling. Its light but definitely sturdy. It doesn't track super well, and is a bit tippy, but its a good basic kayak and definitely worth the price. Really happy with this kayak!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Kayak After watching a lot of YouTube videos and reading hundreds of articles i decided on a Pelican kayak and it is everything i want and more. I you like to stay out on the water for an hour or the whole day this is the one you need , the comfort of the seat is excellent . The tracking is very good and you can get it up to a decent speed. Stability is outstanding. Overall an amazing kayak for touring .

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for bass fishing I bought this last year because of a bad back. I needed something lighter that could fit in the a small SUV. I added 2 rod holders in the back and can actually get 4 rods in it with a tackle bag. I bought a very short paddle since the kayak is not very wide. It works for me and am very happy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tough kayak. We bought a set of the 80x for Christmas. After tackling the Linville River and all the rocks in the river, we headed home. One of the kayaks loosened. It fell off the vehicle and got hit by a semi truck. Only damage was road rash, rubber burn and the back handle broke off. Tough kayak. Out grandson would halve been heartbroken. I have an Argo 100X and love it.

How about stability, etc for one person to use?

Asked by: yakster
We do not recommend to use a tandem for 1 person. It will not be as stable and the tracking will not be as expected. You would need to add a weight on the empty seat to even out the stability.

There is no shed/boathouse where I can the canoe in the winter, so I'm wondering if the kayak can be stored outside. My cottage is on Rice Lake, Ontario.

Asked by: ashir88
You can cover your kayak with a tarp if it is left outside, we do not recommend to leave it in the water in the summer as it can damage the product. People have left their kayak under their balcony covered with a tarp and have not seen damage to their kayak come Spring. It is also important not to mount anything over it or have it lean up against something else.

I weigh 310 pounds, assuming I'm not bringing any gear other than a life jacket, will I be able to operate this Kayak given that the capacity is only 375 pounds?

Asked by: Richard
You should be fine. The closer you come to the Maximum Capacity the lower the boat sits in the water which creates more drag and thus more effort to paddle. Nevertheless, at 82% of overall capacity, you should still get good & decent performance plus, you are well within the limits for safety and security. Have fun out there!
