Reviews & Questions

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love My Pelican Argo 100 I started kayaking last year using rentals each time I'd go out. I decided to purchase my own but found the research to be overwhelming. I stopped by Academy one day and walked out with everything I needed to get on the water. This kayak is lightweight allowing me at age 65 to self load it on top of my SUV. It handles well in the water and I've had no problems in keeping up with my those in my group using more expensive kayaks. It's does great in class I and class II rapids, but I'd be nervous going beyond that. This is a great entry level kayak for beginners and those not looking to spend a lot of money on a kayak. I see using this kayak for many years before upgrading.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly recommend for beginners like me I bought this yesterday, and took it out this morning. I am a 56 year old woman, and this was my first time in a kayak ever. I watched a few videos about getting in and out, paddling etc. I was a little nervous about how the getting in would go, but it was incredibly easy with this kayak. It is very stable, and I had no issues with tilting. It moved through the water smoothly. There is plenty of room for me, a cooler and the fishing rod I plan to take next time. I truly cannot imagine a better beginner kayak for novices such as myself. The adjustable foot pegs were a cinch to adjust while sitting in the boat. The seat was comfortable for the two hours I was in it, and getting out proved to be much easier than expected.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect! My husband bought this kayak for me 2 days ago. I have been wanting one for a while. After trying out several in the store(seats/length/sit on vs sit in) I made my decision. Well this is my first kayak but my friends have had several or been on them anyway. Went to the lake today and had a blast!!!!! Fishing in it was great too. Rod, bait, life vest and plenty of room for more. Myself, 2 of my best friends, my teenage daughter and my teenage nephew all took turns. My family will be purchasing 2 more and my friends are getting ones like this one too. After 8 hours on the water it was still just as comfortable as when I first sat in it. My 13 yr old nephew who weighs 95 pounds toted it with ease down to the water(100 yards) and I toted it back without struggling. So whether you're a beginner or experienced this is just a great kayak which I named "Suzzie". Lol

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My new toy While I have many years’ experience fishing from canoes, I have never tried a kayak. I bought a Pelican Argo 100 for fishing small creeks and rivers. I read about many styles of kayaks and studied long and hard before I made up my mind. This seemed to be a very good choice. It was just that. Very stable, tracked well and easy to fish out of. Being 68 years old, I didn’t want to spend a large amount of money. I have never felt like I had to have the most expensive model of anything. I took the kayak out today and had a ball fishing out of my new toy. Easy on the back and legs, no problem sitting and moving around casting. Can’t go wrong with this one. You will enjoy it as much as I did, I am sure of that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great kayak at a great price! This I a great kayak! It is very stable. I wouldn't advise standing in it but it is imposible to tip it when sitting in it. It tracks very straight. I is very quiet for fishing boat docks for bass. There is no need to spend extra money for another sit in kayak. This is the exact same hull as the more expensive ones. The seat is very comfy. This kayak doesn't come with rod holders but you can buy them seperatly. The places are premolded all you havce to do is screw them in. This is a very couslimisasble kayak. with lots of molds for hole to install add ons!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So Glad I Decided on This One My wife and I decided to try kayaking so I started shopping. I read tons of reviews and ads for so many different sizes, brands, and features. When I brought these Pelikan Argo 100's home, I immediately knew I had made a good choice. Once we got on the water, I knew I had made a great choice. I'm slowly equipping them with accessories to make them into "fishing" kayaks. Adding leash points, rod holders and also a GoPro camera mount. These kayaks are light weight, but very durable. They are very easy to get them to go where you want. We have spent several hours on the water and they are extremely comfortable throughout the entire day. I highly recommend the Pelikan Argo 100 to anyone looking to getting into kayaking. We absolutely love them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great kayak. Cant believe how good for the money! Excellent kayak. For a first kayak its am excellent buy and pricepoint, you wount find a better kayak at this price point hands down. The seat is super comfortable, I spend hours on it and I am a beginner, this is my first kayak that I own even though I've been on various models either rented or borrowed from friends. The stability is top notch, maneuverability is excellent as well, no negatives at all honestly, and I can find things to correct fairly quick on most product I buy, but this kayak is perfect on its price range and even when conpared to more expensive kayaks, I paddle with people that have really expensive kayaks, and not even once I had a need to upgrade mine because of x or y reasons. If considering it, buy it. Dont even think about it. Excellent kayak. Thank you Pelican, for an awsome product!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Beginner Kayak I have never been on a Kayak before and decided to purchase these due to the price. I found it to be easy to paddle and very steady. I gave 4 stars because I am 5'11" and found it hard to find a place for my feet because they felt so far forward. That was the only negative thing about it.

6'5" is this a good fit for me

Asked by: Faceman
You should try a 12' kayak instead, unless you only want to use it one season as I imagine you won't be comfortable in it for too long.

Will this fit both my husband who is 6'4" and me at 5'6" -we are both looking for kayaks

Asked by: kkugs
For you no problem, this kayak will be perfect! But for your husband, I recommend a kayak 12 feet and more.

1) So I guess I'm not supposed to take the styrofoam out? (my son thought it was part of the packaging and started digging away at it.) 2) Whats the best way to lock it? (at a slip/marina)

Asked by: misch80443
1. No these are supposed to stay in the kayak as they make the kayak float. 2. We do not have any recommendation on how to lock it, depending on the type of kayak you have, the handles would be my guess.

Does the storage compartment in the back have a separate area or does it just go into the main compartment in which we sit in? Would my dry things stay dry in that compartment?

Asked by: Erin
No it does not. The storage compartment isn't waterproof. We suggest having a dry bag if you want to keep your things dry. Here's a few of our dry bags:
