Reviews & Questions

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Big improvements fron last year For 199 you can't beat it, I did my research and about bought the close pelican model from academy, but when I saw this model I was sold. I really liked the improved rear storage from last year's models, having seen so many complaints, I can store cooler, tacklebox, and I'm sure a lot more. Planning on doing a lot of upgrades and can't wait to hit the water again. My son bought one too and we plan a camp trip down the river soon as flooding goes down. My dogs only complaint is it's too slippy on the nose of the boat to ride, lol, may have to add some grip tape for him!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome I got this for my Beautiful wife for her Birthday and let me tell you it was the BEST thing I could have done...She loves it...She is new to the sport and she was like a little girl on Christmas morning when she got it, I picked up Matching paddles to go with it...VERY well made and very light in weight at only 36 pounds...Easy to load and unload from our car and she is even able to do it herself for those days when she wants to go out with her girlfriends on the lake...My wife and I are very happy to own this and you we be too if you decide to buy one!!! Best Regards Doug F

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great bargain for your money! This is the first kayak that I’ve purchased and this one fit my needs perfectly. At ten foot long it fits into my pickup truck’s 6’ bed, 36 pounds is easy to carry, and at under $200 I don’t have a huge investment in case I get tired of kayaking. There’s plenty of storage on top with the bungee cords, a fairly comfortable seat for my 6’ 175 pound frame, and good maneuverability. So far I’ve taken it on a few 300 acre lakes, slow moving river, and an Ozark stream. It did well on all three. I recommend this as a good basic entry level kayak. I honestly think that you won’t be disappointed in your purchase of this kayak.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very pleased! Let me just start out by saying the colors were so vibrant and beautiful in person, it made it hard to pick one! I ended up going with the sea foam/yellow. The size and weight made it easy to transport home. I left it outside the night I purchased it not realizing that it was supposed to rain and it ended up filling with water. The plug in the back made it easy to drain the next day. I tested it out the next day and was so pleased with the stability, how much room inside and how fast I was gliding across the water. Very happy with my purchase!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from We love it! Light weight and versatile We bought this kayak on a whim because our friends got it on sale, it had great ratings, I wanted to pick up another one and for the price, we couldn't pass it up. It's a great little kayak. We've taken it out on the intercoastal as well as in our lake and it does well in salt water or lake. I do prefer my heavier duty kayak but it is nice how lightweight this one is. It's just not as stable or deep as mine and I'm used to mine. I like the higher seat back on mine too. But I can't say enough about this one. Will probably pick up a couple more for the kids.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great kayak for the price I bought this kayak for $160 and feel as though that's a good deal. I've had it out twice and it tracks smoothly. The built in bungee straps work well to hold towels, small cooler, etc. My only complaint is that if you get any water inside it (from paddling or just getting into it) it's difficult to dump it out. You have to use a towel and soak it up - minor inconvenience. If you're sitting still in the kayak or paddling it feels very stable. If you try to reach for something in your kayak or alongside it, it'll feel a bit shaky. Overall I don't think you can purchase a better kayak for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Kayaks We are new at kayaking. Went one time on sit on top kayaks, wasnt sure we would be comfortable in these but i did alot of reviewing prior to purchase. And we got two of them. Color choices are great. These kayaks are excellent, very stable even when you stop. The price is excellent @$199. You cant beat it, worth every penny. Spent four hours in the lake today and cant wait to go back. I highly recommend these for all ages. Very comfortable and lots of storage area.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for petite women! I am a smaller woman, which is the majority of why I chose this kayak and the price being very fair. This thing is SUPER easy to carry down to water and load on top of a car by yourself, if that is something you are looking for. It tracks fairly well in the water, but does get turned around easily. No worries though, because it is just as easy to get turned back around. I've only used it in calm rivers, but had no trouble in commercial waterways getting out of the way of massive barges fast! Highly recommend for the price and for beginner kayakers, such as myself.

I love my Pelican Kayak. Unfortunately, a mouse got in it and removed foam. How can I replace the foam? And what would you suggest I do to prevent critters? I've used traps, peppermint oil etc. Thank you!

Asked by: Emily
The foam is not something we sell. You can get it at any hardware store, cut and sized to fit. However, this is not necessary, the foam provides additional floatation and if it is removed, it will not affect the performance of your boat. You can replace it if you plan on hitting close to the maximum weight capacity. The only difference now that it is removed is that you might sit a little closer to water level.

What is the best cockpit cover for this model? I noticed the back is open so not sure what will fit it.

Asked by: Renee C
Unfortunetly, we don't carry any spray-skirt or cockpit cover for this specific kayak. As you have noticed, with the open back such an item won't be able to grip onto the cockpit.

Is the hull on the trailblazer 100nxt the same as the cove 100xp cant decide which to buy stable is the most important

Asked by: joann65
Hard call! :) Both of those kayaks have the same Twin-arched Multi Chine Hull. Tracking and maneuverability will be the same. The major difference between the two lies in the deck and the accessories. One has an open live well on the back, and the other has a closed hatch.

Should my Trailblazer kayak be transported hull up? Or down?

Asked by: suelbright
On a Pelican cartop carrier, a Kayak would need to be transported the same way you would put it on the water. See picture on the Cartop Carrier page. https://www.pelicansport.com/us_en/ps0481-3-00

I've had a Trailblazer for the past year, and I'm wondering if I can remove the styrofoam to clean it out... I'm worried it's getting moldy in the stern.

Asked by: Suzymish
We recommend that you do not remove the styrofoam that is visible in the kayak as it acts as extra flotation. This extra flotation styrofoam, if removed, can be replaced with any styrofoam found at your local hardware store. The kayak, without this extra flotation, will still float and perform as it was designed for but will sit lower in the water.

Asked by: Suebee
For the bungee hooks you will need to purchase our hardware kit PS1003 and the drain plug required is PS1275
