THE CATCH 130 HYDRYVE by Pelican brings pedal drive technology within reach on this 12’6” rudder controlled fishing kayak. Read more
THE CATCH 130 HYDRYVE by Pelican brings pedal drive technology within reach on this 12’6” rudder controlled fishing kayak. Made with our proprietary RAM-X™ Premium, a multi-layer polyethylene with an advanced resin in the top layer imparting a glossy finish and providing significantly more rigidity than standard polyethylene, THE CATCH 130HD remains light, stiff, strong, and easy to move. At only 78lbs, you won’t need any help to transport this kayak to your favorite fishing spot.
The HYDRYVE pedal system makes maneuvering in shallow water or around aquatic plants, an absolute breeze and by using the power of your legs, you’ll be able to go for long distances without getting tired. We have taken a modular approach to our design. This way if anything goes wrong, repairing the drive is easy. To prevent damage to the actual kayak, we have specially designed an independent housing in which the HyDryve sits. This ensures if too much torque is applied to the pedal drive, the kayak remains undamaged and the housing is easily replaced. It is important to note that the pedal housing is NOT a watertight structure as the "scupper hole" in which it resides is watertight. The gap between the top and bottom halves is completely normal and specifically designed in that manner to ensure easy cleaning and rinsing as well as quick drying. The pedal housing acts as a buffer between the pedal drive and the watertight hull.
The HyDryve comes with a One-year limited warranty and features adjustable pedals as well as adjustable foot straps to ensure a comfortable position. In addition, our footrests are double-sided and optimized for either barefoot use or use with boots and shoes. And, while you have to reverse the HYDRYVE in order to go backwards, we have made sure that insertion and removal of the pedal drive is simple and quick.
THE CATCH 130HD provides the same quality and durability you have come to expect from THE CATCH family. We have packed this kayak with the convenient features you love like multiple flush mount rod holders, several rigging tracks, bottle and tackle box holders, accessory eyelet, anti-slip carpet, an 8” day hatch with storage bag, a convenient angler ruler, and two tank wells for easy storage.
Our famous tunnel hull still provides a high level of stability to ensure an easy and relaxing sight fishing experience. We’ve also included our most recent and most comfortable ERGOCAST G2 seating system. A pocket on the backrest allows you to insert extra lumbar support with straps that adjust the level of support. Straps under the seat adjust to provide as firm or as soft a seat as you prefer. An elastic pocket and strap conveniently located on the seat allows you to keep your pliers, cutters and clippers close at hand. And, there is a large pocket on the back of the seat to provide even more space to store your gear. When you're ready to stand, simply flip the seat backwards to give yourself even more deck space to stand on.
Our unique manufacturing process allows us to include additional flotation inside the hull of all of our sit-on-tops in order to meet or surpass ABYC Standards. This overall process keeps our kayaks lighter than the competition while making them even more solid and buoyant. Made with our patented RAM-X™ PREMIUM material, an exceptionally durable high molecular weight polyethylene that contains a top layer of advanced resin, which provides more rigidity while still being conveniently lightweight, THE CATCH 130 HyDryve will provide years of fishing adventure. The wait is over, it’s time to create stories in your own pedal drive, fishing kayak. THE CATCH 130 HYDRYVE, making the dream a reality!

Reviews & Questions

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice kayak. Could use some tweaks. This is after my second day out on the water. Used so far on rivers and creeks and I'm impressed So Far. The seating is super comfortable for me having 2 herniated discs in my lumbar spine I was on the water for 4 hours without an issue. The material feels stiffer and less forgiving than other competitors. Me personally I fee that the rudder stowing/deploying could use some work, the rudder is difficult to deploy and stow especially when it's in its keeper but may loosen up with use. The kayak maneuvers well and tracked well in 15 mph winds. I would not hesitate again to buy this but without Alex Folgueira's review on social media, I would have never known this existed

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Needs just a few tweaks... First let me say I love my new Catch 130HD. And less than 1/2 the price of a comparable Hobie pedal drive, it's a great value for the money! That said, I have a few suggestions for future design improvements: : 1. Starting at the bow, there is an obvious spot on the front of the boat where a hatch could/should have been installed it even looks like space was created for one during the design process, but the hatch was simply never installed? It appears to be the perfect place for a batteries, etc. that you don't want exposed to the elements. 2. There is another seemingly obvious spot for a hatch on the bench right behind the seat. Again it appears as though an opening for a hatch was part of the initial design specs, and then never installed - don't know why? 3. The paddle retaining strap does not nest the paddle up against the boat very well at all poor nesting design/strap placement seems to be an afterthought, almost like "oh yeah, we need to add a retaining strap for the paddle." Add some molding on either end of the paddle nesting spots to better secure the paddle & keep it from bouncing around in rough water. 4. While you're at it, it also needs another strap & molding for a paddle/anchor pin on the starboard side of the boat as well. 5. And how about an anchor trolley for said anchor pin as well? If this is the Flagship of the Pelican fishing fleet, it should have all the accessories! 6. Last but not least, the plastic rudder protrudes from the stern about 4-5 inches, even in the stowed position, leaving it vulnerable to damage when it is secured in the bed of a truck during transit (or even hanging off the back of a trailer). Perhaps future designs could allow for the entire rudder assembly to pivot up onto the deck of the boat to minimize the potential for damage during transit? Like I said though, I LOVE my new 130HD - the pedal drive is smooth and fast - faster than a prop-driven kayak, and you can't beat the value If you want a human-powered, fin-driven pedal drive!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice entry pedal drive. This review is after my second day on the water river fishing. I purchased this boat unseen based on the ICast 2018 reviews on YouTube. I initially had some issues with the rudder cables due to installing them too tightly onto the rudder causing the hard steering and eventually the cable

Is there a part made to cover the pedal drive housing for transport? When i get on the highway the wind that goes through that hole makes a loud howling noise while on my rack. Also my drive will not lock in..the black latches are lose and free.

Asked by: Steven
If you disassemble the pedal housing, you will notice a couple of bolts holding the locking latches in place. You can tighten those which should make the locking latches less loose and free. Right now we do not have anything that is designed to close the hole. But, your issue is unique and interesting. We will forward this to our product development team.

Is there currently a recall on the pelican catch 130? Went to buy one this week and academy sports are pulling them from the shelves, saying there is a recall but could not explain what the recall is about.

Asked by: Rob
Yes, there is a voluntary safety recall on this product due to a potential flaw on the rudder assembly. You can find full details on our website www.pelicansport.com/recall. Product should be sorted out in the next week or two.

Why doesn’t my catch 130 hd come with scupper plugs. Where can I buy them

Asked by: River
Currently, the scupper plugs we carry do not fit in The Catch 130HD. However, there are several aftermarket companies that do offer the correct size. You should be looking for plugs that work for scupper holes up to 1.75" in diameter.

why isn't this kayak suitable for inter coastal and ocean fishing ?

Asked by: retired carpenter
Kayaking in the ocean is generally more about the user's knowledge and ability than it is about the boat. While you will find this kayak in youtube videos on the ocean, you can see the waves are not large. There is no problem using this kayak in salt water. All you need to do afterward is thoroughly rinse it down with fresh water. Many people have used this kayak in coastal areas around Florida and Texas. We cannot, however, give a blanket statement saying this kayak is ocean fishing appropriate as it will function in certain conditions but not all.

If the drive peddle housing is removed while on the water will the the kayak become water logged and possibly sink?

Asked by: JP
The pedal housing basically sits inside a giant "scupper hole". The housing itself is not designed to be watertight. The hull itself is watertight and the housing acts as a buffer. So even if your housing breaks due to excessive force, the "scupper hole" is watertight.

I was reading online about reviews on the Catch 130 Hydryve. I read that there is a problem in the pedal unit in that a screw is hitting the housing and breaking a part in the pedal unit and it is a problem. Has Pelican looked into this? Is this true? Thx

Asked by: wildlifedigicam
Yes, we have looked into this issue thoroughly. With the help of consumers who had this problem, we were able to correct the issue. If ever you receive an earlier version of the drive which still has this problem, simply reach out to our customer care department service@pelicansport.com, and we will send you the updated piece. We take any and all issues with our new HyDryve very seriously and appreciate it when a customer reaches out to us to let us know they are having problems. We stand behind our product and will not leave our customers out to dry.

I am in the process of acquiring a new paddle kayak and Im leaning towards the 130, but after seeing the Lightning strike kayak video with a gentlemen stating that the drive doesn't have roller bearings, does your drive have bearings in it?

Asked by: Steve
No, it has no bearings. Nevertheless, we stand behind our product, if ever there is any trouble.
